Joy on tap

I was told to keep this joy on tap.
.
I think that’s great advice especially in ceramics. The highs and lows in my chosen medium can make even the most hardened feel manic at times. I’m certainly not hard and it can wear me down to tears at times when things go wrong, but then it fills me with such joy it also brings me to tears. Yeah, we’re an emotional bunch. I suppose that’s the power and the curse of being passionate about what you do.
.
I often remind myself when it goes wrong that I didn’t choose an easy path and I’ve made it more challenging for myself with working in multiple clay bodies, glazes and techniques. Ceramics can be very unpredictable so it’s wise and common practice to work in one clay body, 1 glaze recipe with 1 oxide in 3 different ratios and making the same shapes over and over. Some days I wish I found that appealing.
.
Instead, as suggested, I shall keep this joy on tap.
